Maureen Ellen Thompson, formerly known as Maureen Ellen Hanson, passed away on the 20th of August 2020. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph A. Thompson and children: Megan Ashley Thompson, Joseph William Thompson, and Brendan Patrick Thompson. She is also survived by her siblings Mary and Jeff Hanson. Maureen grew up in Southern California where she met a handsome, young Marine and later moved to New York City where she started a family. Maureen and Joseph A. Thompson wed on the 26th of August 1989 and danced to their cherished wedding song “Somewhere Out There” by Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram. The family’s feelings remain that she is somewhere out there always watching over them. In 1994, Maureen started her career with Ikea Furnishings and she spent the following twenty-six years happily working between Elizabeth, New Jersey and Charlotte, North Carolina. She made time available through her years of working to help with environmental protection programs, including cleaning the beaches in New York City to helping recycle old electronics and batteries to keep the carbon footprint from growing. Being environmentally conscious was always something she loved to consider and to share with others. Even after her death, Maureen Thompson will forever be cherished by her loving family and friends.
