Marian Doebele Wood

January 28, 1937 — April 5, 2026

Charlotte North Carolina

Marian Doebele Wood, 89, formerly of Flat Rock, North Carolina, passed peacefully into Heaven on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Born in New York City on January 28, 1937, Marian was raised in Pelham Manor, New York. She graduated from Pelham Memorial High School and went on to earn her degree in Elementary Education from Cortland State Teachers College.

On August 23, 1958, she married Benjamin P. Wood of Ossining, New York. Together they shared a loving marriage and raised three children: Kimberly, Brooks, and Pamela.

Marian devoted much of her life to teaching and serving others. She was a longtime first-grade teacher at Siwanoy Elementary School in Pelham Manor, where she was known for her warmth, patience, and dedication to young children. She was also an active volunteer and a member of The Junior League, generously giving her time to many community projects and programs.

Marian found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved being on the water, whether at the lake or the ocean, and she especially loved traveling the world. She was a wonderful cook, an avid gardener, and an enthusiastic reader who was rarely without a book nearby. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, loved a good game, and brought a spirited, competitive nature to all she did. Above all, she cherished her family. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan, cheering them on at their sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Emma Doebele; her sisters, Eleanor Bukowski and Doris Russell; her brother, Richard Doebele; and her beloved husband, Benjamin Wood.

Marian is survived by her children, Kimberly Fuller and her husband, Bryan; Brooks Wood and his wife, Pom; and Pamela Arthur and her husband, David; her grandchildren, David Arthur Jr., Emilie Arthur, and Kimberly Wood; and her two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Blair.

A private family service is planned for later this summer.
