John "David" Thomas Sr.

A native Charlottean, David was the youngest of six children born to Georgie and Wesley Thomas. He unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, June 12.

David grew up running around the neighborhood on Arnold Dr. prior to moving to Mint Hill for his high school years. Active in his church youth groups, he and friends had many good times playing at the church property at Lake Norman and at the Lawing’s playground. It was at Independence High that he met his wife of 39 years, Connie Lee and they welcomed their son John to the family in 1989.

During his teenage years, some of David’s life challenges began to emerge and he struggled with throughout his adult life; However, his love for his family and friends never faltered.

David was an outgoing, fun-loving individual who enjoyed being engaged with people. His delightful personality was on full display throughout his career and was appreciated by customers and co-workers alike. His career included time with Barefoot & Co, A Cleaner World, Lowe’s, JRCole, Planet Fitness, and Packaged Products Printing. He proved to be a dedicated and resourceful employee that earned him respect among his colleagues and supervisors.

David is survived by his wife, Connie Lee, son John and spouse Jen and soon to be born grandson. His four brothers – Jimmy and spouse Julia, Bill and spouse Donna, Bobby and spouse Sanda, Richard and partner Rose, and his twin sister Connie and spouse Bridget, many nieces and nephews, and loyal 4-legged companion Sam.

David will truly be missed. However, we must take joy in knowing that he has found the peace that eluded him during his lifetime.

The service celebrating David will be Friday June 20, 2025 at 11am at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church.

Visitation will follow the service.
