John Edwin Rose Jr. passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday August 14, 2020. He was born November 3, 1937 in Charlotte, NC to the late Dorothy Montgomery Rose and John Edwin Rose Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother James.
John was a 1955 graduate of Myers Park High School and NC State University. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Sally King Rose, their two daughters Gentry Rose of Charlotte, NC, and Sherry Champion and her husband, Brad of Lincolnton, NC; and their two granddaughters Jacqueline Melman and Sophia Champion.
He married Sally King in 1962 and started their family in Charlotte. A new job with Carolina Caribbean / The Land of Oz took them to Boone, NC. Living in Boone and with a love of books they opened a book and gift store downtown, The Curiosity Shop. They soon built a home in Valle Crucis, NC. In the country he enjoyed the land and raised horses. He had a great knowledge of guns and their history and enjoyed reloading and target shooting. They lived in the mountains for 15 years.
He enjoyed his time with his family and granddaughters and maintained a good outlook throughout his many health challenges later in life. He always looked forward to his outings with the Mouzon Movers from church. He relaxed in the backyard keeping the many bird feeders full while chasing off the squirrels.
The family expresses its gratitude to Dr. Michael Friedland and staff and Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte.
