Joan Marie (Connell) Stewart
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Joan Marie (Connell) Stewart, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who passed on December 30, 2023. Born on October 18, 1934, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, Joan was the beloved daughter of the late William and Susan (Janes) Connell and the sister of the late Robert Connell. She was the loving wife of the late George Frederick Stewart.
Joan's legacy lives on through her devoted son, David, his wife, Danielle, and her adored grandson, Jack of Concord, NC. Additionally, she leaves behind nieces, nephews& cousins, each of whom held a unique place in her heart.
Joan's early years were centered around her active involvement in the Trinity Church community in Saint John, where she participated in choir and taught Sunday school. Her childhood memories, filled with love and laughter, remained dear to her throughout her life.
Joan moved to Holliston, MA in 1971 and Framingham, MA in 1973 where she raised her son and spent the next 50 years in the town of Framingham. Joan was proud to have worked for Digital Equipment Corporation in the early days of the company. She also worked for Perini Corporation in Framingham and Gaston, Snow & Eli Bartlett, law firm in Boston. She would spend the last 15 years of her work life looking after children for several families. She adored the children and was so happy to make an impact in the lives of growing children.
Joan had many interests including the Boston Red Sox, Boston Symphony, Tanglewood & The Framingham Library. Joan was a proud volunteer and supporter of PBS, Boston affiliate WGBH. She had a lifelong love for Golf, never missing a tournament in her later years. One of her greatest thrills was a trip she took with her son to the Masters in Augusta Ga. She also was elated to learn her ancestors on her dad’s side traced back to the Tufts family of Massachusetts who also developed the Pinehurst Golf resort in North Carolina. Pinehurst became a very special place for her.
Joan was the beneficiary of amazing health care at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Ma, CMC Northeast in Concord NC, and Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte NC. In lieu of flowers or donations you could best honor Joan by practicing random acts of kindness.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held in the summer of 2024 as her family plans to visit Saint John and gather to honor her legacy and rest beside her husband, George.
