Charlotte

Carolyn Jean Robinson, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at Carmel Hills Assisted Living Center. She was born on June 15, 1938, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ, to Henry and Hilda Brune and was raised in Pennsauken, NJ.

Carolyn cherished being a mother to Laurie and Brian and “Nana” to her grandson, Tyler, creating treasured memories during their ice cream outings together. Her role as a big sister to her younger brother, Hank, fostered a lifelong bond and dear memories.

Her gentle spirit and love for learning led her to attend Glassboro State Teachers College where Carolyn's nurturing nature shone teaching kindergarten in New Jersey. She inspired many young minds with her warmth and patience. Later she worked as a secretary and administrative assistant at Bank of America and provided sales support for Rimex in Charlotte, NC. Her passion for mental health advocacy was evident in her leadership as president and later secretary of NAMI Charlotte, where she offered compassion to countless families.

A woman of deep faith, Carolyn was an active member of her church, teaching Senior Sunday School and sharing her love for scripture. She often found comfort in singing her favorite hymns, “Jesus Loves Me” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” which reflected her unwavering trust in God. Known for her meekness, optimism, and warmth, she never met a stranger, greeting all with a caring heart.

Carolyn found joy in simple pleasures: swimming, watching birds, solving puzzles, and competing in the Senior Games, where she raced bicycles and played badminton with enthusiasm. She expressed her love for the United States by meticulously repairing American flags.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Laurie Haag, 61; son, Brian Haag (Amy), 59; grandson, Tyler Haag, 28; brother, Hank Brune (Carole); niece, Sharon Fair (Scott); nephew, Ken Brune (Mo); ex-husband Bill Robinson; stepson, Geoff Robinson (Melissa); and stepdaughter, Dina Anderson (Harry and Lily). She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Brune, and Ex-husband Jack Haag.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15). Carolyn will be deeply missed. Carolyn's family would like to thank Carmel Hills and Hospice for the great care and compassion they showed to her and her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to NAMI Charlotte (nami-charlotte.org) or the Carmel Hills Resident Care Fund (contact Carmel Hills for details).
