Mr Murphy died peacefully Sunday September 8th, 2019.  He was born in New York City to Daniel Murphy, deceased 1949, and Lillian Parker Murphy, deceased 2002, and has lived in Charlotte NC since 1994 having moved from Worcester MA.  He received a BA/Russian Studies in 1964 and MBA in 1975 from Fordham University. His interests in international life began with 1965 participation in Operation Crossroads in Cameroon, W Africa and 1966-69 Peace Corps volunteer service in the Dominican Republic. He worked in pharmaceutical and insurance industries in Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. In MA he worked in human services as a mental health and substance abuse counselor. In 1994 he moved to NC.
Married in 1969 in Santo Domingo to Gloria Valdez, who also now resides in Charlotte, he is survived by their 2 daughters, Cristina Murphy of Charlotte, and Michelle and David Lassiter of Waxhaw, NC, and grandchildren, Aidan Lassiter, Gianmarco Price and Gabrielle Lassiter.
A former Wachovia Securities/First Union employee since 1996, he participated in volunteer projects at work and in the community.  Mr Murphy was involved in CAPCA Charlotte Area Peace Corps and also participated at International House in Spanish and French conversation groups, the book club and with other intercultural events. He enjoyed international travel and the developing cultural diversity in Charlotte.
